Service to Others

I recently said a prayer asking for ways I could help others. I think we all have a desire to be of service. It makes us feel good; it makes us feel useful. Yet, the answer that came was that we don’t need to go looking for ways to help. Rather, we need to actually focus on becoming the best version of ourselves first.

What this means is paying attention to our own interests and pursuing the things that fill us with joy. When we do this, we are able to tap into what turns us on and fires us up which in effect causes us to emit an energy that truly benefits humankind. It naturally attracts others to us who need to learn what we have to give. Then, giving feels easy, effortless, and joyful. Opportunities to serve abound, and we are able to serve in ways that we are best suited for.

When we try to help from a feeling of guilt, we spread the energy of needing to do something out of obligation verses out of love and enjoyment. Do you believe that you can enjoy being of service to others? Or do you feel it’s just a charitable act that will make you a better person because you do? I believe that we are the best servers of others when we have tapped into our own passions and are living in alignment with our authentic selves. It is after this point that our energy can flow freely and genuinely, and we won’t have to worry about finding ways to serve – because they will find us.
