Lighthouse

If you could connect with some object in nature that links you to your deepest truth, what would it be? For me, it would be a lighthouse. I have always experienced a rush of emotion whenever I come into contact with one; although I grew up in the Midwest and never actually saw one. I loved what they represent and what they inspired me to do. The idea of being a light, shinning a light, and leading others to comfort and peace – is what I love most about lighthouses.

There’s also something about a lighthouse’s image: standing sturdy and strong against the crashing waves, never holding back or denying its light. It’s there as a refuge for all who’ve been “lost at sea.” It’s powerful in its ability to evoke redemption and transform in a soul that’s wandered astray.

There is a lighthouse picture hanging in my bedroom which reads, “Shine like the whole Universe is yours. Stop looking for light. Start making it instead.” Perhaps the best way for us to find our joy is simply to be it for others.
