Everyday we face decisions about where to put our energy. We only have so much energy, so we need to learn how to use it wisely. Otherwise, we’ll end up emotionally or physically drained.
To conserve my own energy, I give myself a “low stress bar.” What this means is that there’s only so much I allow myself to take on. It might be as simple as knowing I only have 2 things on my “to do” list that absolutely have to get done. I remind myself that everything will get done in perfect time, and as I move more slowly and peacefully, life comes at me more slowly and peacefully.
I choose the tasks that are most important and require the most mental or physical energy to be completed at the time of day I have the most energy available. Then, before the end of the day, I take a few minutes to plan out the next days’ events so I can still have enough energy for my creative pursuits. if we don’t have energy to do the things we love, we won’t have much love to offer the rest of the world.
