STOP challenging yourself. Stop making everything in your life “an opportunity to improve upon yourself.” Where did you come up with that idea anyway? Who told you life was one level of advancement after the next? You know what happens when you live this way? One day you wake up and you want to stop but you can’t. Because it’s already so ingrained – you always thinking of ways to make yourself better; you never being able to fully relax. You’ve lost the appreciation of yourself as-you-are, and even the recognition of who you are!
When you get to this point – where you’ve lost your sense of identity all together – the journey back to center… can be a long one. But it’s not impossible, it just requires a new level of self-awareness and the due diligence to change. When you’ve spent the majority of your life pushing yourself to be better, rather than connecting with who-you-really-are, it’s not just going to be an overnight assignment. However, the first step is an easy one: Stop challenging yourself. Why is this the first step? Because once you do it, you’ll realize that there’s been a drill sergeant living inside you, and once the drill sergeant goes away, you’ll have a lot more free time on your hands. This is where you get to lighten up, go have some fun, and start appreciating life instead of striving to be something you’re not.
