Like leaves falling from the trees to rest on the forest floor, all of us are entitled to a settling time; a time of rest, reflection, and renewal.
Settling time is the time between learning something new and taking action. It’s the integration period required for us to digest and absorb and make sense of all the new information we’ve just received. If we don’t allow this “settling time” where all the information has time to make itself relevant in our own lives, we risk moving ahead too quickly and never giving past insights the space and time they need to take root.
Settling time requires patience. It asks us to be okay with gray for a little while, and to stay open while additional pieces fall into place. It can sometimes feel, ironically, “unsettling” if we are too rushed and anxious to wait. But once recognized for what it is – a blessing from the Universe to reflect and grow – we can start to relax into this transition period with a confidence and grace knowing that soon we’ll emerge with fresh insights and a deeper understanding of what we need to know.
