The mind’s a beautiful thing – when we use it correctly. What do I mean by correctly? I mean developing habits that serve us rather than hurt us, and training our brains to do things automatically – so we don’t have to think about what to do next.
When we use our mind to structure our day, keep us on a schedule, and on task, we generally have less “down” time where we can end up feeling… down. Even our meditation and alone time should be planned. Why? Because otherwise, we can fall into depression not knowing what to do and how to spend our time. This can lead us into past behavior which has become ingrained within us – but is not necessary healthy (I think we all know what I mean). Also, when we are isolated or bored, we are not able to function from the best “brain perspective” possible. Meaning, we are not able to come up with great ideas, feel at peace, and take action on the next best thing.
So, the answer is simple: Write things down and plan ahead. When you find yourself in that bleak place, not to worry. It’s never to late to pick up your pen and start planning the rest of your day. Here is an affirmation I say to myself that might help you, “It’s not hard, it just takes time.” Anything that we can say or do to “settle ourselves back in” and re-focus successfully, is a mind tool. When you write things down, prepare things in advance, and then make that a habit in your life, you are much more likely to be successful and stay on track.
