Written some time in 2007 at age 23:
I’ve always preferred looking at life with the “glass is half full” attitude. I love to encourage and motivate people, but one thing that is even more important to me is emphasizing the significance of BELIEVING. For if we ask but do not have faith that our needs will be met, how can we expect to see results? Now I am not talking about religious beliefs at all. I am speaking simply of faith. Any faith in anything – God, Goddess, Universe, Buddha, you name it. The point is that when you are sitting on your couch staring at the stars imagining that perfect life for yourself, you truly do believe that it can happen. Here is a quote I like to recite often, “Anything is possible so long as you believe.”
Believe in people too. I used to think that if I didn’t speak to someone for long enough, that maybe they just weren’t the friend I thought they were. This is incorrect! We all need each other so very much. Don’t burn your bridges – no matter how long it has been. You never know when you may need to reach out to someone (or when someone may need to reach out to you). I almost decided to write a book titled, “Why We Need People.” This is how strongly I feel about keeping relationships going. For me, people are well springs of inspiration, lighthouses of knowledge, and keys to unopened doors of infinite possibilities. Life is full of experiences to be had. The more people you know and interact with, the more stories you can hear before choosing your own path. I know this well for my age, for I was not born with the definite awareness of who I would become. It is the people in my life who’ve shaped who I have become, what I believe, and where I am going now. There are many roads I still wish to travel, many journeys I still wish to take, and many quests I want to embark on for the thrill and the challenge. But knowing where to start comes from having all sorts of positive and negative experiences to choose from.
If you are young or inexperienced with making your own decisions, that’s okay, you just need to start today by asking yourself questions like, “What’s out there? What interests me in the current moment? What’s the best way to get there?” And, don’t be afraid to ask for the opinions of others either, just make sure that in the end, whichever path you choose, you stay true to yourself. These are good ways to decide on a direction and they are just some of the many questions I ask my fellow friends and co-workers every day. Now, that being said, I may not be an expert on this topic, but deep down, I truly do believe that some people we meet are not always people for us to learn from, sometimes they appear in our lives because we have something to teach them. So be patient with others, especially strangers whose ideas differ vastly from your own. Come to think of it, you can learn something from these people, you can learn compassion.
Side note on believing written 9 years in the future: Believing is powerful, and it is the first step to allowing that which you desire to come into your life. However, looking back at the above chapter almost a decade later, I now replace “I believe” with “I know.” This outlook was recently brought to my attention by an older gentleman who is on the same spiritual path as I, and he said, “You can’t just believe, you have to know.” This resonated with me because it increased my own conviction and faith that my desire is already here… and I have the knowing that this is true. Just some extra food for thought!
Side note on believing written 10 years in the future: Guess what? My views have changed… again. Surprise, surprise! This is a blog about evolution after all… So, today, 9/7/17, I must write about GRACE. Mmmmmm…. Grace. Do you know something? I just spoke with a women who did not believe in an action that she took to create something in her life… but she did it anyway, and received her wish! Someone gave her the Law of Attraction book, and she was quite skeptical, but she was also desperate, so she read it and then this person told her to make a list of everything she wanted in a man. Again, though she didn’t believe that writing down qualities she wanted in a man would actually bring her those qualities, it did! The point: Grace overrides belief. Aren’t we lucky? Another point: the more you grow, the more you learn, and so it’s important to have patience with yourself when you change your mind a lot. It’s okay! What’s most important is not to judge yourself as you navigate the path of life. I like to say this quote to remind myself of this very fact: “Trust yourself, don’t judge yourself.” And remember, staying open is a beautiful, magnetic, life-enhancing quality that others will find irresistibly attractive.
Back to present time: July 17th 2019. I am a firm believer that grace overrides the Law of Attraction, that miracles trump magic, and that God’s power is greater than any superstition. I have seen the magnificent outcomes that have transpired from the simple act of surrender, and I know after 17 years of writing and reflecting on my own life, that we really don’t have anything to worry about. Trust the Divine; keep the love alive for yourself, and transformation will ensue regardless of what you do.
